About Adam Wright, Sound Artist

I’ve engaged the industry for about 13 years. A guitar player by nature coming from a family of electrical engineers, I guess it made sense when it was time to record the band that I should step up and meet my destiny.

Mid way through high school the boys and I began recording SM58’s through an old Biamp board with spring reverb into my buddy’s mom’s hifi vcr. From there we rented a dat machine. After that we sprung for an actual recording studio for 2 days. On day 2 (mixing), the dude pulled up the kick drum on its own track, started dialing in some thunder and I was hooked.Adam in England

I make it my business to know ‘what’s going on’ in terms of new pro audio hardware with an ear to the ground on computer based recording. I have 8 years of experience in sound for broadcast with CHUM Television where I held the position of audio operator / editor. I also have experience in audio post including sound design and voice overs, boom work for television and film production as well as live bands including monitor mixes and front of house.

I use all of this experience to fuel and further my most passionate endeavor – recorded sound. Television broadcast gives me an appreciation of the human voice in its rawest form, boom work reinforces the importance of mic placement and live sound puts it all together with time constraints and adverse conditions thrown in for good measure.

These days I’m opting for more live off the floor type projects. Live off the floor is great because you get everything at once and it costs a lot less time and money. I’ve spent the past ten years or so collecting my own equipment in order to provide a one stop shop for clients and to be able to output the level of audio quality worthy of everyone’s time.

In a way I’ve come full circle. My gear’s been carefully chosen to be portable and of the highest quality. This allows me to get anywhere from the rehearsal space to the cottage and everything in between - whatever it takes to get the best capture while providing a safe environment for the artist to create and see their creative visions realized.

Happy recording, adam.
